Luton SleepEasy event 2019
On Friday 15th March, The Mall Luton opened their doors to over a hundred people who attended YMCA Bedfordshire’s SleepEasy event.
由购物中心主办和承办卢顿,the giant sleepover saw groups of local schools, Guides, families and staff from local businesses settle down for the night - both indoors in the Central Square area of The Mall and outdoors in The Mall’s car park.
Community coming together
The event aims to raise funds for the vital services provided locally by YMCA Bedfordshire and increase awareness of rough sleeping. All of the fee and sponsorship money raised will go directly to YMCA Bedfordshire and be focused on helping and supporting people of all ages in Luton who rely on them for accommodation. Over £10k was raised in total which was a fantastic effort by everyone involved.
“I would like to congratulate everyone that has come together at The Mall to raise funds and awareness for such a great cause. Homelessness is a real issue not just in Luton but all over the UK and it has been amazing to see the community come together and do their part to help fight the problem ."
Striving for a better future
YMCA Bedfordshire’s Giant Sleepover event comes shortly after the government released their rough sleeper count for 2017/2018, resulting in Luton sitting at number 5 in the top 10 highest local authority rough sleeper counts and estimates within England – a 14% rise from the previous year.To put this number into perspective Manchester was 4th and Bristol 6th.
